Disappointment all round this week as after four games, across the grades we failed to secure a win.
First up our Senior team gave a very poor performance when being comprehensively beaten by neighbours St Kierans on a scoreline of 1-14 to 0-6 points. Our scores coming from Brendan Hayes, Declan Nash, Sean Whelan and 3 frees from Darragh Ranahan. Our junior team gave a better account of themselves against Ballybricken/Bohermore in the much delayed 2015 County Junior B League Final. Ballybricken started quicker and an early burst of scores that saw them lead 0-4 to 0-0 after 10 minutes. From here on the game was a very even affair, but a number of wides put paid to our chances of reeling back Ballybricken, who eventually pulled away with 2 late goals. The final score was 2-9 to 0-5, but was a much closer game than the scoreline suggests.
On Wednesday evening, a much improved performance by the Senior team against Newcastlewest saw them eventually go down on a scoreline of 0-7 to 0-5. Despite the loss there were some fine performances, in particular the younger members of the squad such as Barry McMahon, Dave Holland, Darragh Ranahan, John O’Shaughnessy and Paul Doyle. A miserable week was rounded off by a depleted junior side going down on a scoreline of 1-12 to 0-7 in the first round of West Junior B League.
The club would also like to send best wishes and a speedy recovery to stalwarth senior player Shane Hallinan who suffered a serious injury on Wednesday night. Hopefully it won’t be too long before Shane is back wearing the green and gold again.
