A busy couple of weeks for our Senior Footballers has seen them remain undefeated after two rounds of the county league and a West Championship quarter final.
First up, was a visit to neighbours St Senans. This was comprehensive team performance, where we ran out comfortable winners on a scoreline of 1-20 to 0-5.
Team: Danny Fitzgerald, Roger Somers, Rob Whelan, Feargal Cassidy, James O’Meara (0-2), Pa Ranahan, Mark Ranahan, Padraig Vaughan (0-1), Shane Gallagher, Barry McMahon (0-2), Shane Hallinan (0-7(6f) ), Sean Whelan (0-4), Anthony Ryan (1-0), Matt O’Meara (0-1), Declan Nash (0-2)
Up next was our second county league game against Galbally, again we were comfortable winners on a scoreline of 2-13 to 0-10. A good first half performance which saw us lead 2-8 to 0-1 at half time, was over shadowed by a poor second half which saw Galbally take a foot hold in the game and outscore us 0-9 to 0-5. But the first half scoring blitz was enough to see us move to the top of Division 2 of the County League with two wins from two.
Team: Danny Fitzgerald, Roger Somers, Rob Whelan, Feargal Cassidy, Anthony Ryan, Kevin McMahon (0-1), Mark Ranahan (1-2), Padraig Vaughan, Shane Gallagher, Barry McMahon (1-0), Shane Hallinan (0-5(2f) ), Sean Whelan (0-2), Maurice Somers (0-1), Matt O’Meara (0-1), Mike Neville (0-1) Subs: Marcum Fitzgerald, Alan Kehoe
Our first game in the West Senior Championship was played on St Patricks Day in Glin against Athea. Intermediate side Athea, started the game in lively fashion but once we got into our stride our senior experience proved too much for them to cope with and we won the game on a scoreline of 2-14 to 0-4.
Team: Danny Fitzgerald, Rob Whelan, Pakie Moran, Kevin McMahon, James O’Meara, Pa Ranahan, Mark Ranahan (0-2 (1f)), Padraig Vaughan (0-1), Shane Gallagher (0-1), Anthony Ryan, Shane Hallinan (1-2(1f) ), Sean Whelan (0-4), Maurice Somers, Matt O’Meara, Danny Neville (1-3) Subs: Mike Neville, Feargal Cassidy, Conor Enright, Declan Guerin (0-1), Barry McMahon
So a good start to the year for our senior side, but so far we have only met Intermediate teams and tougher challenges lie ahead in the coming weeks.
