Ballysteen…3-15
St.Kierans…0-7
Our Seniors produced a superb display in the Bog Garden last Saturday evening as they outgunned and out played neighbours St.Kierans to make it two wins out of two in this years Senior Championship. A devastating display in the final twenty minutes of the game saw Ballyteen score 3-6 which helped the side to one of their most convincing wins in recent years and sets the side up nicely in their group with three group games remaining. The first twenty minutes or so of the game saw little between the sides with tit for tat scores which saw the sides level at 4 points a piece after about twenty minutes of play. Ballysteen then upped the tempo in the final 10 minutes to score 4 unanswered points to lead by 0-8 to 0-4 at the break.
The first few minutes of the second half saw the sides exchange a few scores again but once Declan Nash scored the first goal of the game after ten minutes of the second half, the flood gates opened and Ballysteen poured forward playing fast attacking football that St.Kierans had no answer for. A well taken second goal by Packie Moran and a third from substitue Maurice Carrig all but put the game to bed in the final ten minutes. This was an outstanding attacking as well as defensive performance from the Seniors with some superb performanaces all over the field. Danny Neville once again led the scoring with 6 points, 4 of which were well taken frees. Sean Whelan, Matthew O’Meara, Shane Gallagher, James O’Meara and Paudie Vaughan also contributed towards the scoring. In midfield Shane Gallagher was majestic throughout the game while the backs as they did against Na Piarsaigh in the previous game defended brilliantly quenching most St.Kierans attacks. All 6 defenders deserved high praise and protected Danny Fitzgerald in goals superbly.
Our forwards combined brilliantly with Danny Neville once again showing great distrubution throughout the game. The ageless Mike Neville worked hard as ever while Dec Nash and Sean Whelan continously caused havoc with direct attacking football with plenty of support from Shane Hallinan and Brendan Hayes. Paudie Vaughan and Pa Ranahan were also instrumental throughout the game with brilliant support play.
With three group games left, there is still plenty of work remaining but our Senior side can be quite satisfied with the opening two wins of the championship and with a four week break between now and the next championship game, they will be training as hard as ever to be prepared for what will be hopefully an a exciting championship for the team.
